    I had the same/similar USB port loss-problem with my HP Pavilion 11-n010dx x360 laptop with Windows 8.1, and I didn’t have the aforementioned problem-Windows Update (or its ‘child’ updates) to begin with. Faster Fancy Stuff might need version 4.70. (using it from here) Version 4.40 works just fine. The doc's say windows 7, 8, & 8.1, but they work on 10 as well. Pre-empt the generic drivers, and the device works. Then run it to install the drivers written by the device manufacturer.
